My Name is Clare Ferris and I am a registered hobby breeder of Siberian cats and registered veterinary nurse. I have been working with animals since 2000 and have had cats as pets most of my life. Cats have always been special to me. I find them fascinating creatures. Independent and loving but with an elegant side. In 2015 I completed a diploma in feline nursing as I wanted to learn as much as possible about how best to care for these wonderful animals both in my day work and at home as a breeder. My first cats were non-pedigree rescue cats that I would generally adopt from work. It was in 2003 when an old stray white Persian came into my work in a bit of a mess that got me interested in pedigree cats. I instantly fell in love with her despite how she looked and as no owner came forward I decided to adopt her. I got her back in good health and started to show her. She was a wonderful cat who sadly died a few years later from kidney disease. It was through her that I got the show bug. I then decided I wanted another pedigree I could show but a breed with less severe facial features and problems. It was after seeing an article in a cat magazine about the Siberian that I fell in love with this breed and wanted to know more.
In 2007 when I started looking for breeders there were not many around, I waited for 12 months to get the right cat from a wonderful local breeder. His name was max and he was a silver tabby boy. Sadly he did not enjoy being shown so he remained a pet but through going to a couple of shows I met other breeders who then planted the seed of becoming a cat breeder. Late the following year I got my first breeding female, Kiskasiberians Karlisa daughter of the wonderful Russian born Angelur Viking. She had great success at shows and became Quadruple Grand champion. She had many wonderful kittens including Belle and Boris who formed part of my founding lines. Many years later I have imported several traditional lines from all around the world and my breeding is aimed at preserving the true Siberian without mixing or Neva masquerade. Most of my current cats have no neva in their entire genealogy and if they do it is at foundation only. I am one of only a handful of breeders in the UK to breed neva free genealogy cats. My cats are first and foremost much loved pets with access to both indoors and outdoors via purpose built enclosures. I am a closed cattery with my own males so the risk of picking up infections from other catteries is minimised. All are fed super-premium cat food and have annual health checks and vaccinations. All cats are tested negative for FIV/Felv, HCM annually before breeding via echocardiogram with board certified veterinary cardiologist, PKD1 and Pk def. via gene test and faecal parasites. All my cats are blood group A not carrying blood group b. All kittens are given a 5 year health guarantee against hereditary disease. My Kittens are raised in the home and used to the usual household sights and sounds. They are handled a lot and used to nail clipping, pill giving, grooming etc. as well as fully litter trained. They start life in a dedicated, safe nursery room before moving down stairs and are not mixed with other cats apart from their mother. They remain with mum until they leave at 14 weeks. I believe this is very important to ensure they learn manners and how to behave around other cats to help them deal with frustration and other negative emotions.
I am a registered breeder with TICA and I abide by their breeder code of ethics (see links page to find out what this entails). This is a guide to help ensure good minimum standards and welfare. My matings are chosen carefully to minimise inbreeding which over time can lead to weak, immunocompromised cats. Our prefix Druzhina means companion, friend in Russian. I feel this sums up the breed very well. They are very loving and dog like in their devotion to people and want to be involved in all you do.
I hope you enjoy looking around my website and learning more about my breeding program. I am very proud of the standards I hold and take great satisfaction in knowing my babies are raised to the best of my ability making them excellent family pets.
